I was really excited to try this place after seeing it such highly rated on Google, but it was very much a disappointment.
The store was clean, service was okay, but the food was a complete miss. Ordered Chorizo, Steak, al pastor tacos, chips and guac. Didn't get chorizo tacos though, got carnitas instead, which wasn't bad, but lacking flavor. The steak taco was flavorless and the al pastor was some of the most tasteless, driest I've ever had. The guac wasn't fresh at all. The theme here is things seem to be prepared, refrigerated, reheated, or at least that's how they taste.
There's many other great Mexican restaurants, I wouldn't waste my time with this one.
Not sure if I already left La Chingonita a review, but if I did they totally deserve a second one. I always order takeout and delivery here. The food is absolutely delicious and authentic. With affordable prices. Their birria is so SO good.
Solid tacos in Fishtown - with inflation they’re more than I usually like to spend on tacos but you definitely feel like your moneys worth because they are PACKED. The shrimp was literally falling out of the taco because it was so stuffed. I thought 3 tacos wouldn’t be enough for me but I was stuffffed. My hub’s burrito had a bit less meat than we would have liked. Taste wise I really enjoyed the shrimp and the burrito was solid but not amazing. Chips and guac were also pretty good, solid but not amazing.
It’s not an authentic Mexican place so there were some details that made it feel more Tex/mex e.g. the cheese in the burrito or tomatoes/pico on the taco.
Overall not the best tacos we’ve ever had but a solid place if you’re looking for a fix.
Delay in writing review. Been in a food coma. I wasn't ready for what the birria tacos were giving. The cashier was really sweet and was helping me figure out what I wanted with it being my first time. They had me at birria and Agua frescas. I couldn't wait to get home and try the food. Started at the corn covered in tasty queso fresco and did the typewriter eating of that. Then made my way to the chicken taco. The taco looked simple garnished with onion and cilantro with a radish. The flavors hit me not disappointed at all. Finally made it to the strawberry Agua Fresca. Never had one taste like it and they put fresh strawberry in it. The birria tacos were nice and juicy. I'm shocked I made it to the churro. The churro was still warmed and filled with some cream. I'd honestly never be able to work there. I'd get in trouble for eating.
Food was incredible and they were all really nice. I can’t wait to come back.
The place is very cute and clean. The service & staff were very friendly. We had the classic steak tacos and specialty shrimp tacos. Both VERY delicious. The steak was seasoned perfectly and came with 2 salsas to help lubricate the taco. The shrimp was delicious every bite! Portions were perfect, not too full or needing more afterwards. We will be recommending to others. If you’re reading this, you should def give them a try! Biking or walking would be easiest to get here.
I had the Chorizo Torta, and the trio of chicken, chorizo and steak tacos. The meat on each were well flavored and moist. Definitely the best tacos in northern liberties/Fishtown. The chorizo was delicious... I wish I had asked where they sourced it. The restaurant space is built for a quick stop, and still well worth it. I appreciated the great service and will be back again.
Dude go try these tacos. They were so good. I tried taco with just the corn tortilla and the carnitas no sauce or anything and could’ve ate them all like that. The lime and sauces just made it better, the red sauce has a tiny little kick to it (I don’t really like spicy). My steak quesadilla also tasted great! The meat inside both the taco and quesadilla are super flavorful. I will definitely be back to try some more and this will most likely go to 5 stars.
